Puppies 8 – 14 weeks
Congratulations on your new puppy. We are happy that you chose to let us take part in your new journey as you embark on a S.T.A.R.T. program or CLASS. Your puppy will need a lot of guidance and help to navigate these first ‘critical’ few weeks.
You will notice that we stress socialization as a ‘program’ under 12 weeks of age. We canteach a puppy to sit, stay, and come at any stage of their development. But after 12 weeks we are past the ‘imprint’ stage. We can no longer add building blocks to the brain. The door is closed. And this spells doom for many of today’s dogs. By 1 year old they are ‘out of control’ – This doesn’t need to happen.
We invite you to start reading the information in these documents, and learn everything you can about socialization. Just remember – socialization isn’t about the dog seeing, and engaging with 100 different stimuli. It is about ‘having fun’ while that stimuli is present.
